Liam Peet-Paré

I am a business and technology lawyer at McCarthy Tétrault in Vancouver. I work in M&A, corporate governance, and securities and capital markets, alongside tech work involving AI governance, IP work, and some commercial contracting. I have a dual role with the firm's AI innovation team where I help the firm to transition into the AI era by assisting the roll out of AI tools, developing educational materials, designing AI workflows, and building AI-powered tools. I was called to the British Columbia bar in 2026.

Before law I completed an MSc in statistical machine learning at the University of Alberta, with Amii, under the supervision of Alona Fyshe and Nidhi Hegde. Prior to graduate school, I worked as a data scientist and researcher for several years, and completed undergraduate degrees in mathematics and political science and economics.

I think the intersection of law, politics, economics, and AI is the most fascinating and important space in the world currently. We are rapidly approaching civilization-upending change and are woefully unprepared for it. I believe that to understand the moment we are in requires both a deep understanding of AI and the foundations and structures upon which our society is built.
